like a car accident that keeps happening

julie warshawI don’t often find myself in crowds, these days. Perhaps that’s why a visit yesterday to Taste of the Grove resulted in such surprise at the heft of the crowd. People are fat. They really are. I’m wise to the statistics and I’ve been to the Newnan Wal-Mart, but Miami seemed mostly immune to the obesity epidemic. It may have been the proximity of Ocean Drive which kept South Florida svelte beyond the rest of the country’s expiration date. Whatever it was, it’s over now. And how long can a county whose average renter spends 30% of their income on housing resist the Extra Value Meal? I’m surprised we lasted this long. Unfortunately, Dade County’s obese are still rockin’ the latest fashions. And most designers don’t have any sizes bigger than a 12. It’s not a good scene, down here. Not good at all.
